Wavelength is only one part of the decision. We also consider the amount and coarseness of your hair, your skin’s current condition, recent tanning, medications, and your response to a test patch. Pulse duration, energy, spot size, cooling, and technique work together. There is no universal setting that is right for everyone, and darker skin does not mean every hair on that skin is a suitable laser target.

The GentleMax Pro Plus offers options for treating suitable pigmented hair across Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI. That is not a promise that every person or every hair should be treated. Darker, coarser hairs are generally better targets. White, gray, very light blonde, red, or very fine hairs may respond poorly or be unsuitable. We are particularly cautious about fine facial hair because of the risk of increased hair growth. At your consultation, we discuss whether laser makes sense for the area you have in mind, including:
